What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

Moderation is in place. Approval is required before comments will be available to readers.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it.

The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Using a Gravatar service is your choice. We neither encourage or recommend that use. If you have trouble posting a comment, please contact us and we will try to help you. Sometimes browsers will not be cooperative…it could be a ‘sign of the moon’ thing.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

We won’t be asking you to upload images to this website as the topic isn’t oriented that way. But, you should know, just in case you try to add images, how the machinery works. We do not recommend adding personal images or files to any place, especially comments.

Contact forms

Contact forms are oriented toward subscription. Subscribers have access to downloads at the Resource Library and will also receive emails from us. Emails are not generated from this website or any browser that you may be using. We do not maintain a message form at this time. If you need to leave a message, please use the email address with your information or request.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Analytics

Who we share your data with

We do not share or sell your contact information when you subscribe. Many links will be affiliate links which could be picking up your data, most certainly if you click on the links to learn more about the product. On these affiliate links, we will have registered to receive a small commission for the product when our website visitors purchase.

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

How long we retain your data

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

If you have a Do Not Track preference, please make these decisions with your chosen browser. We do not override information from the browser that says Do Not Track. We aren’t complicated enough to treat individual visitors one at a time, but depend on that visitor to control their preferences through the browser.

This may not apply, but watch for that little popup box that wants to send you notifications. You can choose, but I block them always. Otherwise I can never get away from them.

You may contact us using the email address: judyATcardinabluff.com to request that we remove your information from our lists (unsubscribe). There is an unsubscribe option on each and every email that we send to you, but sometimes that is not available. If you believe your information is on our lists, please contact us to help you with removal if you wish to be ‘unsubscribed.’

We offer little in terms of subscriber benefits that is essential to a good life. If you have concerns about your privacy, do not subscribe. We understand. If you absolutely cannot exist without subscriber benefits, but cannot put information into any database, contact us personally with your request, using the email address judyATcardinalbluff.com. We will decide on a case by case basis if we can release access without subscription. We cannot guarantee rapid response to your request, either yes or no. Make it a good story if ‘yes’ is important to you. Should your case be approved, any services or benefits that are released to you will be available without discrimination toward your not being a subscriber.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

Your contact information

We do not share or sell your contact information. Subscribers are not asked for more than name and email. We make efforts to keep the site secure from hackers for all sorts of reasons. Your information will be under that umbrella. Anything that you do not put out in the public view (additional personal information on a comment, for example) will be behind the firewall screen. We recommend giving as little information as necessary.
